I just realised I don't have to write these in public any more. I hope your father doesn't mind me making it a private message for his book, though. If he does, then I could go back to making them public, I guess.

Anywiz, I figured it was time to tell you what Satsuma's been doing. Mostly, though, what we're doing a lot of is trying not to go completely spare before OWLs, and Satsuma helps with that because he's so clever and can be dead funny sometimes just when I need someone to make me laugh.

Like he did last night, when he was sitting on top of a whole stack of my Dark Arts books, cleaning himself--you know how he does, giving himself a bath all over, and twisting himself around to be able to reach spots you can't imagine he could ever get to--so he was doing that, and he had one of his back legs stretched up in the air and he was wrapped all the way round himself to reach a spot on the other side, and then all of a sudden, but really slow-like, he starts tipping over backwards.

And he went right over, tail over whiskers, plop! But he landed on all four feet, and then tried to make it look as if that's just what he'd meant to do all along!

He's really good at saving face. Which is jolly good because now he's got kittens to convince that he's head cat and shouldn't be messed about with.

Er, do you know about our kittens? Maybe not. Hogwarts has got sort of a plague of kittens right now. Not sure where they all came from, but they're all over the castle, poking their furry noses into everything and taking over everyone's common rooms and dormitories and the library and the great hall and probably the kitchens, too. I don't know. I think Professor Sprout chased them out of her greenhouses, but Professor Grubbly-Plank is raising three or four of them, and Professor Brutka's got one, and Professor Dolohov, I think, and Professor Siz has got two. You see how it is. So anywiz, up here in Gryffindor tower, we've probably got seven of them. Mostly it's girls taking care of them, but my friend Ken Towler took one after it got into my dormitory overnight. Towler's a seventh year, so he rooms with my brothers--the twin ones, Fred and George--along with Jordan, Kirke and Hooper.

You should have seen Satsuma that morning when he woke up to find a kitten all curled up with him on the foot of my bed. Satsuma cocked his head and was looking at it like he'd never seen anything like it before in his life. And then he tried poking it with one of his paws to see what it would do.

But all it did was opened one eye and yawned at him.

So Satsuma sat all the way up and that tumped the kitten off onto my covers, with its paws all waving around like mad until it was rightside up again.

And then it saw Satsuma's tail and pounced! You can guess he was surprised. Kitten teeth are sharp! So then there was a bit of a scene. But mostly I think Sats thought it was funny, so he was twitching his tail this way and that and the kitten was jumping and pouncing and trying to catch it again. And Sats was batting the kitten about, knocking it sideways just to see it scramble up again.

But then Thomas woke up and said he's allergic to cats and I can't keep a kitten in our room or he'd tell Madam Hooch, and it wasn't worth hearing him go on about it, so I gave the kitten to Towler. Good thing Thomas isn't allergic to stuffed cats, yeah?

So now Satsuma likes to go down the common room to visit all the Gryffindor kittens whenever I'm down there playing ches revising with Bundy and Nev and all.

Anywiz, yesterday we went to Hogsmeade for a while, and Satsuma came along with me in my satchel so he could see Honeydukes and Zonko's. He didn't care much for all the things in there that whizz around and bang and pop and zap you, so we just bought some glow juice and a packet of fizz'n'foam pellets, and left for Honeydukes. Sats liked that better. I bought some ice mice and let him play with one of them. After we'd left the store, I mean. We went off and sat on a wall, and I ate some sweets, and Satsuma played until he'd caught the mouse, so then I gave him one of my chocolate frogs, which was loads of fun, only it did start getting a bit sticky at the end.

And today, we're just stuck up here revising because the weather's rotten. I suppose yesterday was too nice a day for it to last. Maybe it's better where you are? Hope so.

Have a good week, Arista. Satsuma says to tell you to keep your nose clean!

Your friends,
Ron and Satsuma

A plague of kittens, really? I'd take one! But Mummy says Hector might pull its tail.

Do you know any charms to keep annoying little brothers from pulling on kittens tails? until their old enough to know better? (The brothers, I mean. Not the kittens.)

Mummy says we don't hex little kids even when they deserve it.

She says maybe I can get a kitten when I go to Hogwarts. That's not until I'm ELEVEN.
